An impressive win highlighting how far the squad has come
Thorney travelled to Shelford for the first time looking to continue their winning ways and what a game it was.
Playing on the 1st XV 4g pitch Thorney started brightly and pressured Shelford at every opportunity. Scrumhalf Damien King was first to score with Owen Davies converting, 0-7 after 5 minutes.
From the restart the ball was moved out and Fullback Michael croucher broke the sound barrier and hurtled down the pitch to score his first try of the match, again Davies converted. 0-14 after 7 minutes.
Thorney were dominant in the scrum and breakdown and second row Stef Almond was next to score, Davies doing the honours again converting 0-21. Shelford worked hard to get the ball and looked dangerous when they did but stout defence lead to a penalty being awarded and Davies stepped up to make it 0-29.
Tries then followed from Stef Almond, Owen Davies, Michael Croucher and Dino V Perna before Shelford were awarded a penalty try for a high tackle. This didn't phase Thorney as Marcus Bradshaw scored and Michael Croucher crossed for his third and fourth tries.
The Navy & Gold lost skipper Dave Crooke and George Lane to hamstring pulls but both are recovering well.
